The morning passes in a park-like atmosphere. Those longing for a walk can gather all three experiences, while those craving peaceful contemplation can focus on just one.

  1. Möhkö Arboretum is located behind the ironworks park and Lotinakoski pedestrian bridge. It is an experimental park for tree and shrub species, maintained by volunteer work. This easternmost arboretum in mainland Europe surprises first-timers with its diversity.
  2. MOBO Orienteering offers a fun way to explore /en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/mohko village with a map in hand. Holidaymakers can focus solely on the checkpoints in the cultural landscape of the ironworks park. Those hoping for a bit of a sweat can tackle all 14 checkpoints, including the more forested ones.
  3. Lemmenpolku
From the courtyard of the main building of the ironworks, Pyttinki, starts the approximately one-kilometer-long Lemmenpolku. In the late 19th century, the factory manager's young wife strolled along the path created for her. The path runs through the idyllic park area of the ironworks, bordered by the Koitajoki river with its magnificent rapids. While strolling in the park, you will find the charming Ryöppy swimming hut, the blacksmith's workshop, and the ruins of the blast furnaces.
On summer Tuesdays, a guided walk is offered: From Lemmenpolku to the blast furnaces

11.00 – 12.00 Möhkön Manta Lumberjack Cafe
Once a floating lumberjack lodge serving lumberjacks on the hundred-islanded Koitere, it is now a treat oasis for holidaymakers. Piikojen pahe, Suklaahurma, Rapparin reilu or Sällin Särvin will appropriately satisfy hunger, so that the holidaymaker can endure one more sight before moving to a groaning feast table. While sighing over the delicacies, you can explore the ship's history and life during log floating and lumberjacking.

12.00 – 14.00 Öykkösenvaara and Ilomantsin sotatie
The Ilomantsi War Road is a 150-kilometer network in total, along which there are monuments, information boards, museums, buildings, and restored battle positions. On the War Road map there are audio guides that independent travelers can listen to to effortlessly delve deeper into the history of the place.

If you wish to explore only one site on the War Road, Öykkösenvaara, located near /en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/en/mohko, is an excellent choice. The Öykkösenvaara battlefield has been classified as a first-class military historical site, where you can find restored defensive structures, battle positions, and an architecturally unique information center.

14.00 – 14.30 Drive from Öykkösenvaara to Parppeinvaara

14.30 – 16.00 Parppeinpirtti Restaurant's modern Karelian feast

If you only experience one culinary delight during your visit to Ilomantsi, Parppeinpirtti's feast table is a strong candidate. The modern Karelian feast table is laden with delicacies honoring Eastern tradition, spiced with local character.

From the restaurant's corner 'piirootsupu', or traditional bakery. There, freshly baked Karelian pies (karjalanpiirakat) and Ilomantsi vatruskas are prepared.

When making a table reservation, it is advisable to order authentic vatruskas and Karelian pies to take home.
The feast is served June 1-30, 2023, from 11 AM to 4 PM; July 1-31, 2023, from 11 AM to 6 PM; and August 1-31, 2023, from 11 AM to 4 PM.
