Teatteri Möhkö presents in summer 2026
From the War Path to Peace - Ilomantsi Stage Club's 40th Anniversary Gala Play
Premiere, written by Lauri Jänis.
The play tells how, in 1944, as two Russian divisions advanced towards inland Finland near Ilomantsi, the civilian population was evacuated from the path of war. It was not easy for Karelians to adapt elsewhere in Finland due to different customs and prejudices. In the post-war reconstruction era, there was hope in their thoughts, but the experiences left their mark on people.
The premiere is an emotional story of how the Border Karelians experienced their evacuation journeys. They coped through the power of tears and laughter and shared experiences. At the same time, the play depicts the diversity, difficulties, and triumphs of Finland's tribes in creating a unified post-war Finland.
The performance duration, including intermission, is approximately 2 hours and features a wealth of contemporary music and crowd scenes.
