War History in Parppeinvaara

Parppeintie 4, 82900 Ilomantsi

The history of the legendary Rukapirtti is inseparably linked to Major General Erkki Raappana, the Continuation War, and the Rukajärvi front. The exhibition at the Border General's cabin comprehensively describes Border General Raappana's personality as both a nature and dog enthusiast and a significant military strategist. The exhibition offers a multi-sensory experience that leads directly to the trench warfare period of the Continuation War on the Rukajärvi front.

In the cabin, Major General Raappana's weapons and decorations are on display. What makes the cabin's history interesting is General Raappana's own personality as a defender of the border and commander of the decisive defensive battles of Ilomantsi in the final stages of the war, as well as Field Marshal Mannerheim's wilderness-loving acquaintance and trusted man. The extent of the original Rukapirtti's artifacts is impressive, and the items tell their own story of Finland's shared history.

The group arrives at Parppeinvaara, where a guide will greet them. Led by the guide, the group moves to the Border General's cabin. The guided tour tells about the history of the cabin, the battles in the Ilomantsi area, and Raappana's person.
